Aspergilloma

- Aspergilloma is a fungal ball/mass that develops in a pre-existing lung cavity.

- If patient is asymptomatic with single aspergilloma and no progression in cavity size over 6-24 months - observe.

- In patients with persistent/significant hemoptysis, embolization/surgical resection, if feasible, is recommended.

- Peri/post operative antifungal therapy not routinely recommended unless risk of spillage of aspergilloma is moderate due to location/morphology of cavity.  If so, use voriconazole or an echinocandin to prevent Aspergillus empyema.
