  • Gram negative bacilli medium length - nonfermenter

Clinical Significance

These organisms are found in a variety of environmental and water sources.

They have been associated with nosocomial infections including medical device related bacteremia, endocarditis, and hepatic/pancreatic/pelvic abscesses, endophthalmitis, oseteomyelitis, meningitis, and urinary tract infections.

 

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

These organisms are resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins, aztreonam, and beta-lactamase inhibitor combination drugs.

They are usually susceptible to TMP/SMX, quinolones, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, and carbapenems (except ertapenem).

Colistin susceptibility is variable.
