Canadian Guidelines on Sexually Transmitted Infections - Vaginal Discharge
The clinical features of vulvovaginitis are non-specific and should not be used to confirm an etiologic diagnosis. Common symptoms are described below.
Candidiasis - increased white, thick, curdy vaginal discharge associated with pruritus, dysuria, and burning.
Trichomoniasis - increased yellow frothy vaginal discharge associated with increased odor, pruritus, and dysuria.
Bacterial vaginosis - increased thin whitish-grey vaginal discharge with increased odor.
Group A Streptococcus - profuse watery yellow vaginal discharge +/- moderate-severe vulvar pain +/- pruritus.
