Dependent on:

• Site: brain abscess, endocarditis, osteomyelitis – 6-8 weeks

• Adequacy of surgical drainage: minimum 3 weeks after drainage of focus

• If medical device related: prosthetic joint, heart valve, vascular graft – 6-12 weeks
