Leminorella spp

Gram Stain
  • Gram negative bacilli - fermenter
Clinical Significance

These organisms have been associated with nosocomial infections including urinary tract, respiratory tract, surgical site, skin and soft tissue infections, bacteremia, and peritonitis.

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

These organisms produce a chromosomal extended spectrum beta-lactamase (CTX-M ESBL) and should be considered resistant to all penicillins and 1st/2nd generation cephalosporins.

Third generation cephalosporins may have diminished activity.

Carbapenems retain activity.

They are typically susceptible to TMP/SMX, quinolones, and aminoglycosides.
