- Local debridement/tetanus prophylaxis recommended.
- Risk factors for infection:
- diabetes
- deep puncture wound
- retained foreign body
- wound contamination with organic matter

Treatment
- Tetanus prophylaxis recommended.
- Surgical debridement always necessary.
- Culture recommended prior to institution of therapy.
