• Gram positive ovoid cocci in clusters and pairs (slow growing aerobic) 

Clinical Significance

The pathogenic role of this organism is uncertain as it can be found in the middle ear of asymptomatic healthy patients.

It may have a role in chronic otitis media.

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

These organisms are typically susceptible to amoxicillin, ceftriaxone, and vancomycin and are resistant to macrolides and TMP/SMX.
