- Gram negative cocci/diplococci/short bacilli - characteristic doughnut shaped cells - nonfermenter
Clinical Significance
This organism is found in soil environments.
It has been implicated in bacteremia, CAPD peritonitis, and skin/soft tissue (wound) infections. It may be a cause of decompensation in cirrhotic patients.
Usual Susceptibility Pattern
This organism appears quite susceptible to most antibiotics including penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems, aminoglycosides, quinolones, and tetracyclines.
