Gram Stain

  • Gram negative bacilli/cocci small (facultative anaerobic)

Clinical Significance

These organisms are a rare cause of gastrointestinal infection (recovered from stool, bile, upper intestine), bacteremia, or abscesses, typically in immunocompromised patients.

 

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

These organisms are usually resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics including 3rd generation cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, and quinolones.

They are susceptible to tetracyclines, clindamycin, macrolides, and TMP/SMX.
