Prophylaxis

Infection rate up to 80%. Prophylaxis (ideally within 12h of bite) is recommended if:

moderate/severe
edema, pre-existing or resultant
puncture wounds
bone/joint involvement
injuries to hand, foot, face, genitalia
asplenic patients
advanced liver disease
immunocompromised.
