• Gram negative straight/slightly curved bacilli - nonfermenter (aerobic)

Clinical Significance

This organism is found in a variety of environmental sources and is considered a low level pathogen.

It has been associated with bacteremia, endocarditis, ophthalmic infections, and suppurative otitis.

It can be recovered from respiratory specimens of cystic fibrosis patients where its pathogenic role is uncertain.

Usual Susceptibility Pattern

This organism appears to be susceptible to 3rd generation cephalosporins, piperacillin-tazobactam, carbapenems, quinolones, and TMP/SMX.

It is resistant to aminoglycosides and colistin.
