Direct contact. Inanimate objects from patient room often harbor organisms.

Duration of Precautions
Consult Infectious Diseases regarding clinical management of non-resolving cases.
Contact site Infection Prevention and Control for issues regarding precautions, including when precautions may be discontinued. Typically, precautions may be discontinued when the patient is both asymptomatic and able to resume good bowel routine for 48 – 72 hours though some favour prolonged isolation.
Routine repeat laboratory testing of stool is NOT necessary.
