- May involve host defense abnormalities.
- Associated with severe & rapid periodontal destruction.
- Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans plays a prominent role.

 

Prepubertal

- Rare condition that usually affects deciduous teeth.
- Neutropenia observed.

 

Juvenile

- Age of onset between 10-20 years.

 

Rapidly Progressive

- Age of onset between 20-30 years.

 

First line therapy

  • Personal plaque/calculus control and professional debridement essential
  • Consider referral to a periodontal specialist
