Sepsis without a focus

- Recommend:

• blood cultures
• catheter/suprapubic urine
• lumbar puncture
• admission for IV antibiotics.

- Neonatal herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection can present like bacterial infection, testing including lumbar puncture for HSV PCR should be considered in all neonates with possible sepsis.
