Cystitis

- Cystitis is an infection of the lower urinary tract which causes dysuria, with or without frequency, urgency, or suprapubic pain.
- Cystitis is NOT typically associated with fever. If febrile, recommend blood culture and empiric therapy for pyelonephritis.
- In postmenopausal women:
acute dysuria (<1 week in duration) is the most discriminating clinical symptom for UTI
new onset of frequency or urgency or recurrent UTI may warrant investigation for structural abnormalities such as bladder diverticula or cystoceles.
